2020 Plans

Happy new year lovely! I hope the first few days of 2020 have been incredible for you and that you're feeling positive about what's to come for the new year and new decade! For my first post of the year, I'm going to be talking all about my plans as well as my word of the year.

Word of the Year = Growth

Let's start with that last one, shall we? The word I've chosen to represent my vision for 2020 is growth. Growth has always been a powerful driver for me. If you remember my blog from its early days, you'll know that I spent last year working hard to be better and do better and this year will be no different.

Towards the end of 2019, I made a very important list. It was a list of all the things I wanted to improve on plus a handful of new skills that I wanted to learn. And then I made a commitment to myself to invest in myself and my own betterment.

It was a commitment that I took so seriously that I signed up for an e-course and a webinar that same week and started showing up for myself. Each and every step that I've taken since has been intentional because I know where I am, I know where I want to go and I know that I need to work hard to get there.

So I have this extensive list to work through and you know, maybe I won't get around to doing it all this year but that's okay because growth takes time.

Blog Plans

You might have noticed that recently my bios and about me page have been updated to include the term "chronic illness blogger" and that was a bold move for me because I've always felt that talking about my struggle with endometriosis and its myriad of horrendous symptoms is too negative for the blogosphere. I've deleted entire posts from the archives because of it and that was a huge mistake.

At the end of the day, this is who I am and I figure that if I'm going to stand here on my virtual soapbox and talk about my life and experiences then I need to share a true representation of myself. And that means not hiding the fact that life can be pretty crap sometimes.

Now I appreciate that these posts won't appeal to everyone and that's okay. I'll still be sharing my usual family and lifestyle content so hope that you'll find something that you do enjoy reading and continue to return to my little blog from time to time.

Since living with a chronic illness is unpredictable at best, I've decided to cut myself some slack this year. From now on, there will only be one post each week and this will go live on a Friday evening. This gives me a fighting chance of being able to write consistently regardless of what life throws at me.

Life Plans

In terms of my personal life, there are a few things I have in mind for 2020. First of all, I'd like to spend more time with my family. I'd also like to spend more time by myself. And I'd like to stop feeling guilty about spending time alone.

You probably already know that I love reading so it won't surprise you that I want to read more this year. Last year I exceeded my Goodreads reading challenge by reading 28 books when my goal was 25. This year I've set it for 36 books which should be achievable at a rate of 3 books a month, right? I'm currently reading The Woman in Our House by Andrew Hart and I'll get straight back into that as soon as I've finished this post! (P.S. No I never finished reading Mindhunter.)

And of course, I'd like to start making better choices for my health. I don't mesh well with resolutions as I'm more of a mindset/lifestyle changes kind of girl so basically this could be anything from making a conscious effort to exercise more, drink more water, eat better and so on. It could even be as simple as resting when I need to instead of pushing myself past my breaking point - which I do far too often.

Best of 2019

2019 was an amazing year for us. In January, this blog was just a figment of my imagination and look at what it's grown into. You've been there with us through it all - from our trip to Chessington World of Adventures to our wedding day and of course, our amazing honeymoon to Disneyland Paris! It has been an absolute pleasure to share our life with you and be part of such a wonderfully welcoming community online.

To wrap up, I just wanted to take a moment to share ten of my blog posts from last year. From the most popular to the posts that resonated with you guys the most and of course, the ones I loved working on most, hopefully you'll find one you fancy reading next!

Thank you for your support throughout 2019 - I couldn't have done it without you! But also thank you for being here in 2020 and joining me on this journey through life. I sincerely hope that 2020 brings you the very best. See you next Friday!
