A-Z of Favourite Songs

As I missed this month's top 10 post, I thought it would be fun and kind of cool to share an A to Z of my all time favourite songs. I've also included a playlist at the end of this post, giving you a chance to enjoy a short sample of each song or you can click through to listen to the full playlist on Spotify.

Things I Loved In July

Things have been a little rough around the edges recently so I think it's the perfect time to take a look at some of the things I loved in July.

Typo Haul

Anyone else get that 'wahey, it's payday' feeling? One of our family's traditions is that every month when payday rolls around we get to indulge in a little something to perk us up a bit. We like to call it our "payday treat". This month I decided to treat myself to some goodies from Typo and here is my haul!

In Defence of Childless Millennials at Disney

Over the last week or so, an old viral Facebook post resurfaced and attracted a significant amount of media attention with many news outlets jumping on the bandwagon to offer up their opinion. Since I do blog about Disney a fair amount anyway, I decided to share my own opinion on the whole child-free at Disney debate.

Stress-Free Guide to Festive Planning

Say the word 'Christmas' outside of December and it really divides people. In fact, a few weeks back I started talking about Christmas on my Twitter account and I lost a dozen followers in the same hour. Coincidence? I don't think so. But to hell with the naysayers and Scrooges of the world, I love Christmas and I'm going to talk about it right now.

The Labyrinth of the Spirits by Carlos Ruiz Zafón: A Review

I've been fairly busy recently but don't think that I've been neglecting my summer reading challenge because that is far from the truth. In fact, I'm actually building up a bit of a backlog of books to review.

Labyrinth of the spirits by Carlos Ruiz Zafon header image

This one, The Labyrinth of the Spirits by Carlos Ruiz Zafón, was especially meaningful for me. I have absolutely adored the Cemetery of Forgotten Books series, and everything else that Carlos Ruiz Zafón has put out, since I first read The Shadow of the Wind a few years back. As the final chapter in the series, this was always going to be a bit of an emotional rollercoaster for me and I was definitely not disappointed.

Stationery Haul: May + June 2019

If you had met me in my early to mid-twenties, you would probably have described me as a bit of a "stationery hoarder". I couldn't go past a Paperchase store without venturing inside and coming out armed to the teeth with the funkiest new stationery items. But the saddest truth was that I'd buy these incredible items and then never use them. They would just sit there looking beautiful until I'd have a massive decluttering session and ship them off to the nearest charity shop in the hope that they would get a second chance to live out their true purpose.

Stationery haul header image

Around two years ago, I just stopped buying stationery. I became a pro at resisting temptation and I even waved goodbye to my ridiculous collection of novelty sticky notes.

Then I started Thrice Upon a Dream.

If you create content for the internet, you're probably aware of how much stationery gets used on a daily basis. There's always something to jot down or you'll need to flick through your notes to find something you pencilled in a few weeks back. It becomes an essential part of your everyday life.

Since I blog while I'm also taking care of my toddler son, it was crucial that I grab a few items to help keep me organised amidst all the chaos. So without any more faff, here is my recent stationery haul.

Side note: It's been a while since I bought many of these items (and I didn't keep the receipts - doh!) so I've included prices whenever I could be 100% certain of how much they cost.

World Emoji Day 2019: Emoji Cupcakes and More!

Did you know that the emoji is almost 22 years old? I had no idea! Obviously we haven't been blessed with the emoji for twenty odd years but it existed and has grown into the phenomenon that we use in our everyday lives. If that isn't incentive to keep going, I don't know what is. I mean if a yellow smiley face can achieve such great things then why can't we all?

Today is World Emoji Day. Why, you ask? Well it's all to do with that date on the calendar emojis on Apple devices. You might not have ever noticed (I certainly haven't) but that date is July 17th! So every July 17th, we now celebrate the wonderful world of emojis!

World emoji day header

This blog post is obviously very different to anything I've done before but I wanted to give my creative muscles the opportunity to shine through without days and days of editing and I wanted to have some fun. So today I'll be sharing which emojis I use the most, which emoji I am and my attempts at recreating emoji faces on cupcakes!

The Teddy Bear Picnic

Last Wednesday was *drum roll* Teddy Bear Picnic Day and since we were all at home together, we'd planned to take full advantage of the festivities and throw a spectacular indoor picnic for Mini and his soft toy pals.

Premier Inn London Heathrow Airport Terminal 4: A Review

You might not remember but several weeks back we spent a weekend in London to visit our families. As we were spending time with Matt's family on the Saturday and mine on the Sunday, we decided to stay roughly halfway between the two so we booked a room at the Premier Inn London Heathrow Airport Terminal 4. It goes without saying really based on the hotel's name but this is a hotel near London Heathrow Airport. It's so close it's basically part of the airport.

I'm a little bit obsessed with hotel and room tour videos so I decided there'd be some value in doing a little hotel review and sharing our experience with you all.

I'd planned to do a little video to accompany this post but it turns out that it's not that easy to wheel around a pushchair, open a heavy fire door and film at the same time. The room was then quickly taken over by a nude toddler so any hope of filming went out the window but it's okay, I tried.

Why We Chose To Find Out The Sex Of Our Baby

Sometimes I flash back to certain moments during my pregnancy with Mini especially in the run up to anniversaries of certain events. I'd like to share one of those with you right now.

It was an absolutely beautiful afternoon in mid-July. Sunny and warm but not unbearably hot. Bearing in mind that I was walking around in vests in the cold of November, complaining that it was "unbearably hot" - what a difference a few months makes!

Matt and I walked up to the hospital for our 20 week scan. This was a very important day for us because we were hopefully going to find out whether we were expecting a boy or a girl. Finding out the sex was really important to me and so I'd like to talk about why we chose to find out.

Why we chose to find out the sex of our baby header image

It's a question every expectant parent gets asked a thousand times: do you want to know what you're having?

For us, the answer was always a resounding yes.

Top 10 Favourite Sitcom TV Shows

In case you haven't looked at a calendar today, it's the 10th of July! Yay!

You might already know that today is a very special day because it's Teddy Bear Picnic Day. To celebrate, we enjoyed a yummy picnic in our living room surrounded by some of our nearest and dearest soft toys - but I digress because that's not in any way related to today's post!

This month I've decided to start a new monthly post where on the 10th of each month I share with you a top 10 list. I know, so original right?

To kick start this segment, I've chosen to share with you all my top 10 favourite sitcom TV shows because sometimes we all just need a bit of a giggle!

Our Wedding: 4 Months To Go!

I've got a huge confession to make: up until recently, I was a bit of a 'bridechilla'. I took a very laid-back approach to wedding planning.

But alas, that's starting to change because our wedding is suddenly only four months away! Eek!

Our Wedding 4 months to go header image

Since I've not shared anything about our wedding yet, I thought that I'd do a little post to share what we've got sorted and talk about the million and one things we've got left on our wedding to-do list.

A Whole New World by Liz Braswell: A Review

Summer is well and truly underway as is my summer reading challenge!

The third book I finished was...

As is the case with 99% of the books I own, I actually bought this years ago and have let it lay dormant ever since. But no longer because I have finally finished reading it and with that, I present to you: my book review of A Whole New World.

We Bought a Pirate Ship!

Every pay day, we each get a little something that we want. For Matt, it was a Raspberry Pi. For me, a pair of maternity skinny jeans. (I'm not pregnant but maternity clothing is the most comfortable for handling those endometriosis flare ups!) Oh, and we bought Mini a pirate ship.

5 Things Bloggers Can Learn From Leave Your Mark by Aliza Licht

Let me start by saying that Aliza Licht is the mentor you never knew you needed.

Leaving behind years of training to become a doctor, Aliza decided to forge her own path towards the super competitive fashion industry. Starting as an advertising intern for a regional magazine, she climbed the ladder and went on to build a community of over 1.5 million followers through the popular DKNY PR GIRL twitter account.

Even though Aliza's background is in fashion, which is an area I have zero interest in myself, I found this book to be a treasure trove of advice for people in any career field.

More importantly, I found Leave Your Mark to be an especially invaluable resource to me... as a blogger.

So instead of a stuffy book review that wouldn't do Leave Your Mark justice, I decided to share exactly what bloggers can learn from within this delightful book.

5 Things We're Celebrating at Disneyland Paris!

2019 is a very exciting year for our family and we're ending the year on a high note with a special trip to the magical Disneyland Paris!

If you've ever been to one of the Disney parks around the world, you'll know just how much they love a good celebration. This is perfect for us because we have a lot to celebrate on our upcoming trip.

In fact, we have five things to celebrate!

With further ado, here are the five things we will be celebrating during our family's most memorable Disney holiday ever.

The Disney Tag

There are four types of people in the world:

  1. Those who love Disney irrespective of age
  2. Those who believe that Disney is just for kids
  3. Those who hate Disney in general
  4. Those who don't have an opinion on the subject and/or simply don't care

It should be fairly obvious if you follow me on social media but I'm in that first group.

Since I'm still quite new to the Disney and blogging communities, I thought that doing a Disney tag would be a great way to share our family's love for all things Disney!

May Review + June Goals

If you pick up any book about personal development, I guarantee you'll find something about setting goals.

Even though I've had SMART goals and Personal Development Plans (PDPs) forced upon me for most of my life, I never really took the time to actually appreciate them. I'm still a total newbie when it comes to setting myself goals and so it won't come as a shock to anyone that this is my first ever goal-setting post.

The Prisoner Of Heaven by Carlos Ruiz Zafón: A Review

I never expected to be back with the first book review of my summer reading challenge so soon but here I am!

I chose to start by reading The Prisoner of Heaven by Carlos Ruiz Zafón.

Over the last five years, I have read most of Zafón's work and have found them all to be pure escapism. Each story has captivated me and not released me until I read the final page. The Prisoner of Heaven was no exception.

Summer Reading Challenge 2019: Introduction

Like so many others, I absolutely love reading. I love escaping into an alternative reality for a few days. Even dipping my toes into a great piece of non-fiction is a welcome break from real life.

But... I really struggle to find the time to indulge in a good book. Reality always seems to get in the way.

So a reading challenge seemed like a great way to encourage me to finally get around to reading some of the books that have been gathering dust for far too long.

Paradise Falls Mail Co's May Box: A Review

Let's be honest: no-one would be surprised if I said that I'm always on the hunt for new Disney themed items.

With supermarkets, high street shops, online sellers and small shops all offering incredible products, it's so easy to climb into the rabbit hole and get trapped in shopping Wonderland forever.

I love to support small shops as much as possible but with so many incredible creators within the Disney community, it can be really hard to decide what to buy.

Enter Paradise Falls Mail Co.

Each month they release a mystery box filled to the brim with Disney themed goodies that come directly from small shops. For only £25 plus postage, you get 4-7 themed items with a total value of £40 or more. How amazing is that?!

Disney Haul: May 2019

If there's one thing I love more than shopping, it's Disney shopping!

You might remember that I was recently treated to a birthday shopping spree in the beautiful city of Cambridge. I came home with a wonderful loot of incredible Disney items from the Disney Store and Primark.

I think it's fair to say that these days you can't possibly go shopping without a shiny haul post to showcase all of your bargains and fab finds so here's it is: my first ever Disney haul!

Free Disney Dining 2020 for UK Guests

If you didn't already know I love Disney and the idea of one day being able to visit Walt Disney World as a family fills me with excitement but my goodness, all that magic comes at a hefty price.

So today I'm going to break down for you one of Disney World's most popular offers for UK guests: free Disney dining.

Free Disney Dining Offer for UK Guests 2020

I'll be talking a bit about what it actually is and why it might be a great option for you and your travel party as well as what other Disney fans honestly think of the free dining offer.

It's my understanding that there are similar offers available for guests in other countries but alas, you'll have to do a spot of research as this post looks exclusively at the offer available for UK guests visiting Walt Disney World in 2020.

Please be advised that all the information regarding this offer is correct at the time of writing and I do not take responsibility for any outdated or incorrect information. You can find more information about this in my disclaimer.

A Day Well Spent (at a Disney Park)

Planning a trip to a Disney Park? The reality is that no matter how hard you try, you simply cannot do it all. There are so many attractions and then you need to factor in all that time queuing, eating and drinking, shopping and of course, using the facilities. All that time eats into your fun. So the goal shouldn't be to do everything but rather to have a day well spent.

Hello Terrible Twos!

Since Mini turned one, we’ve seen an increase in the one thing that all parents dread: the tantrum. He has always been a feisty and temperamental child but this has just escalated as he’s gotten older. Now, at only fifteen months old, I fear that we’ve already entered the dreaded “terrible twos”.
