Our Story: Baby Loss Awareness Week 2019

Today marks the start of Baby Loss Awareness Week - an annual event where bereaved parents, charities and organisations all come together to shine a light on baby loss. It's a really important time of year for me because I am one of those bereaved parents. Our journey to parenthood was not straightforward and was quite frankly heartbreaking for us so today I'd like to share our story. Quite rightly it comes with a trigger warning for miscarriage and early pregnancy loss so please do not read this if it will cause you pain or distress.

25 Things That Make Me Smile

Do you ever stop and think about the things that bring so much joy into your life? The little things that make you smile? I'll admit that I didn't give as much thought to this as I should have before I was tagged to do this post by the incredible Gabby from GABBYABIGAILL - you can check out her post here and of course, you can continue reading to discover the 25 things that make me smile!

Unnecessary Risks: The People Who Ignore Ride Restrictions

Let me be frank: I consider myself to be open-minded. The decisions you make for yourself and your family are yours alone but I do have a limit and that's usually where safety is concerned. So when I see these (all too common) posts on Facebook groups actively encouraging a blatant disregard for ride restrictions, I get a little riled up.

Endo Flare-Ups and the Stay-at-Home Mum: What It's REALLY Like!

It was Thursday night, around 8pm, that I first noticed something was awry. I'd gotten changed into my pyjamas in the bathroom and recoiled at the sight of myself. I was humongous. My usually comfortable and baggy clothes were tight with my top barely covering anything lower than my belly button. I should have realised then, what was to come, but I didn't. I brushed it off, blissfully unaware of the pain that would take hold of me only a few hours later.

Lush Ickle Baby Bot Bath Bomb Review

For Matt and I, it's a real treat to have a bath bomb from LUSH. If money wasn't an issue, or even if there was just a little bit more disposable income, then we'd probably use them regularly but as it stands, they are a luxury afforded to us for special occasions only. Mini, on the other hand, hadn't had the good fortune yet but thanks to the Ickle Baby Bot bath bomb we picked up in our local store last week, his luck was about to change!

Defeated by Chronic Illness?

There's a quote from one of my favourite books, The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky, that basically says "So, this is my life. And I want you to know that I am both happy and sad and I'm still trying to figure out how that could be." This is how I feel right now. I've had a fantastic mini break with my boys at Chessington World of Adventures this weekend and yet here I am, entirely defeated, beaten by the villain that is chronic illness. That thief of joy, health and hope.

What I Read: Summer 2019

August is over! Hooray, we are so close to autumn that I can smell the faint aroma of pumpkins and hear the soothing crunch of people walking over fallen leaves. But the end of summer also brings a close to my summer reading challenge and so here I am, talking about the 12 books I read this summer!

August Favourites

Another month of the year has vanished into thin air and now I'm only a few weeks away from marrying my soulmate before embarking on a fantastic Disney-moon. The next few months of my life are literally what dreams are made of. But before all of that, I wanted to reflect on all the things I loved last month.

Typo Haul

Anyone else get that 'wahey, it's payday' feeling? One of our family's traditions is that every month when payday rolls around we get to indulge in a little something to perk us up a bit. We like to call it our "payday treat". This month I decided to treat myself to some goodies from Typo and here is my haul!

In Defence of Childless Millennials at Disney

Over the last week or so, an old viral Facebook post resurfaced and attracted a significant amount of media attention with many news outlets jumping on the bandwagon to offer up their opinion. Since I do blog about Disney a fair amount anyway, I decided to share my own opinion on the whole child-free at Disney debate.

Stress-Free Guide to Festive Planning

Say the word 'Christmas' outside of December and it really divides people. In fact, a few weeks back I started talking about Christmas on my Twitter account and I lost a dozen followers in the same hour. Coincidence? I don't think so. But to hell with the naysayers and Scrooges of the world, I love Christmas and I'm going to talk about it right now.

The Labyrinth of the Spirits by Carlos Ruiz Zafón: A Review

I've been fairly busy recently but don't think that I've been neglecting my summer reading challenge because that is far from the truth. In fact, I'm actually building up a bit of a backlog of books to review.

This one, The Labyrinth of the Spirits by Carlos Ruiz Zafón, was especially meaningful for me. I have absolutely adored the Cemetery of Forgotten Books series, and everything else that Carlos Ruiz Zafón has put out, since I first read The Shadow of the Wind a few years back. As the final chapter in the series, this was always going to be a bit of an emotional rollercoaster for me and I was definitely not disappointed.

Meeting Elsa and Olaf in Branksome?!

It's been such a busy week filled with emoji cupcakes and teddy bear picnics that I haven't had a chance yet to share last weekend's mini adventure with you all! Carry on reading to find out how a short walk to the post office wound up being a mini adventure to see Mini's favourite Disney princess, Elsa!

Stationery Haul: May + June 2019

A few years back, you might have described me as a stationery hoarder or addict. If it was stationery and it was cute, I had to have it. I couldn't go past a Paperchase store without venturing into its warm welcoming arms. But somewhere along the way, I became a pro at resisting the temptation and even waved goodbye to my collection of novelty sticky notes.

Then I started blogging and if you create content for the internet, you probably already know that for something that requires no paper, you sure go through a lot of it. Notebooks have become my vice purely because I fill them with ideas and notes faster than I can clear through our laundry basket. It helps me stay relatively organised amidst the chaos of blogging while also taking care of my toddler. So today I'm going to share with you, the newest additions to my stationery collection!

World Emoji Day 2019: Emoji Cupcakes and More!

Did you know that the emoji is almost 22 years old? I had no idea! Obviously we haven't been blessed with the emoji for twenty odd years but it existed and has grown into the phenomenon that we use in our everyday lives. If that isn't incentive to keep going, I don't know what is. I mean if a yellow smiley face can achieve such great things then why can't we all?

Today is World Emoji Day. Why, you ask? Well it's all to do with that date on the calendar emojis on Apple devices. You might not have ever noticed (I certainly haven't) but that date is July 17th! So every July 17th, we now celebrate the wonderful world of emojis!

World emoji day header

This blog post is obviously very different to anything I've done before but I wanted to give my creative muscles the opportunity to shine through without days and days of editing and I wanted to have some fun. So today I'll be sharing which emojis I use the most, which emoji I am and my attempts at recreating emoji faces on cupcakes!

Premier Inn London Heathrow Airport Terminal 4 Review

You might recall that the three of us spent the last bank holiday weekend in London visiting our families. As Heathrow is roughly halfway between Matt's family and my own, it made sense for us to base ourselves there and so we opted to stay at the Premier Inn London Heathrow Airport Terminal 4 which is essentially part of the airport itself.

I'd hoped to do a little video to accompany this post because I love room tour videos but it turns out it's not that easy to do with a toddler in tow. So today I'll be sharing our experience of staying at the Premier Inn London Heathrow Airport Terminal 4 with you.

Why We Chose To Find Out The Sex Of Our Baby

2 years ago, Matt and I were heading to our local hospital for our 20 week scan. It was a very important day for us because we were hopefully going to find out whether we were expecting a boy or a girl. Finding out the sex was really important to me and so I'd like to talk about why we chose to find out.

10 Sitcoms That I Love

Today is July 10th which means that it's not only teddy bear picnic day but it's also time to share a brand new monthly segment with you all: a list of 10 things on the 10th! These can be top 10 lists, round-ups and more so be on the lookout for those every month. To kick it off, I've chosen to talk about 10 sitcoms that I love watching because we all need a bit of a giggle sometimes and watching sitcoms is a really easy way to practise self-care.

Disney Bargain Hunting in Poole

Since Matt was lucky enough to have some annual leave booked this Monday, we decided to take full advantage and planned a little shopping day in Poole. It was a fairly hot day, to the point that we found it unbearable, but there's just something special about a coastal breeze in the sunshine so... we can't complain really. Here's what we got up to...

Our Wedding: 4 Months To Go!

I've got a huge confession to make: up until recently, I was a bit of a 'bridechilla'. I took a very laid-back approach to wedding planning. But alas, that's starting to change because our wedding is suddenly only four months away! Eek!

Since I've not shared anything about our wedding yet, I thought that I'd do a little post to share what we've got sorted and talk about the million and one things we've got left on our wedding to-do list.

A Whole New World by Liz Braswell Review

Summer is well and truly underway as is my summer reading challenge! The third book I finished was... A Whole New World by Liz Braswell!

As is the case with 99% of the books I own, I actually bought this years ago and have let it lay dormant ever since. But no longer because I have finally finished reading it and with that, I present to you: my book review of A Whole New World.

We Bought a Pirate Ship!

Every pay day, we each get a little something that we want. For Matt, it was a Raspberry Pi. For me, a pair of maternity skinny jeans. (I'm not pregnant but maternity clothing is the most comfortable for handling those endometriosis flare ups!) Oh, and we bought Mini a pirate ship.

5 Things Bloggers Can Learn From Leave Your Mark by Aliza Licht

Let me start by saying that Aliza Licht is the mentor you never knew you needed. Even though Aliza's background is in fashion, which is an area I have zero interest in myself, I found this book to be a treasure trove of advice for people in any career field. More importantly, I found Leave Your Mark to be an especially invaluable resource to me... as a blogger. So instead of a stuffy book review that wouldn't do Leave Your Mark justice, I decided to share exactly what bloggers can learn from within this delightful book.

Father's Day 2019

There's a saying that goes "when a father gives to his son, both laugh; when a son gives to his father, both cry." Now the internet is pretty divided on where this quote originated with some claiming it has a Jewish background while others credit the great bard, William Shakespeare. Regardless of where it came from, it's a lovely quote that's appropriate for today's post: Matt's Father's Day gift haul!

The Disney Tag

If it's somehow managed to escape your attention this long, that's right: I love Disney! From the movies to the music to the theme parks around the world, I love it all. So since I'm still fairly new to the Disney and blogging communities, I thought it would be cool to take part in a Disney tag and share mine and my family's love for all things Disney!

May Review + June Goals

If you pick up any book about personal development, I guarantee you'll find something about setting goals.

Even though I've had SMART goals and Personal Development Plans (PDPs) forced upon me for most of my life, I never really took the time to actually appreciate them. I'm still a total newbie when it comes to setting myself goals and so it won't come as a shock to anyone that this is my first ever goal-setting post.

The Prisoner Of Heaven by Carlos Ruiz Zafón Review

I never expected to be back with the first book review of my summer reading challenge so soon but here I am! I chose to start by reading The Prisoner of Heaven by Carlos Ruiz Zafón.

Over the last five years, I have read most of Zafón's work and have found them all to be pure escapism. Each story has captivated me and not released me until I read the final page. The Prisoner of Heaven was no exception.

A Day of Fun in Bournemouth

After last weekend's fun but exhausting trip to London, we had a quiet week but made sure that we planned to have some fun on Saturday! Our plan was initially to hit the beach after Matt's eye test and then grab some McDonald's for lunch but we wound up having a more indulgent morning out instead!

Summer Reading Challenge 2019: Introduction

Like so many others, I absolutely love reading. I love escaping into an alternative reality for a few days. Even dipping my toes into a great piece of non-fiction is a welcome break from real life.

But... I really struggle to find the time to indulge in a good book. Reality always seems to get in the way.

So a reading challenge seemed like a great way to encourage me to finally get around to reading some of the books that have been gathering dust for far too long.

Paradise Falls Mail Co's May Box Review

With hundreds of high street stores, online retailers and small shops all offering incredible Disney items and Disney inspired products, it can be really difficult to decide what to buy. For this reason, I love the concept behind Paradise Falls Mail Co - each month they release a magical mystery box filled to the brim with Disney themed goodies that come directly from small shops. £25 plus postage will get you 4-7 items with a value of over £40. How amazing is that?

Since each box has a limited run I kept missing out... until now! So here's what I thought of the Paradise Falls Mail Co's 'Castlebound - Part 2' box!

Bank Holiday Weekend in London

Bank holidays and travel seem to go hand in hand, am I right? Us lucky Brits get two in May which means we've been very busy bees this month. The first bank holiday weekend was spent visiting my dad up in Cambridgeshire and we've just returned from London, having spent this weekend visiting our families in London. It's been very tiring but overall, a really lovely weekend.
